The artistic research examines the problem of snow as a disappearing natural phenomenon in the context of climate change in Lithuania. The artist’s goal is to find out whether it is possible to preserve melting snow and/or ice through artistic means, which in the field of research also become a parallel to human temporality. Using her own creative methods – “Snowtint Réservage”, “Hermeneutics of Melting Patterns” and “Snowsofty”, the artist captures melting snow and its traces in her works, showing that applying different strategies reveals the multifaceted nature of the research object. The research combines theoretical and literary sources with the artist’s practical creative activity. Global and local challenges of climate change and the Anthropocene are analyzed, examples of artists working with snow and ice are discussed, and an authorial artistic practice is developed using snow and ice in the creative process, periodically collecting snow samples, preserving and archiving them, as well as using ego-documentation the dialogue between man and snow is conveyed against the background of everyday life. The graphic works created during the artistic research show that the visual language of art can also act as a means of developing human ecological sensitivity. Through the works, the artist shares her discovered knowledge with the viewer and creates an emotional experience, during which they would not only feel the approaching lack of snow, but also rethink their own transience and relationship with nature. The results of the research show that creative practice is not only an independent form of knowledge of snow, the environment and oneself, but also a means of documenting and preserving snow as a dying subject. Through dying/dead snow, a person begins to understand their own transience. |
