Abstract [eng] In modern day violin repertoire, the word scordatura (mistuning of strings) is a rare term to come across. Not many violin players have tried applying it in practice – it‘s either because there is a lack of scordatura works in violin music, or they had simply never heard of it. Some have mixed feelings about its use – scordatura affects string tension of the instrument, and because the strings are somewhat fragile, there is a risk of breaking them off or becoming loose while playing/tuning the violin. However, this method was used often in the past and is still a popular one among fiddlers, baroque violin players and other instrumentalists. The goal of conducting this study is to determine the function of scordatura in modern violin playing and to discuss its practical use. By looking at the history of scordatura and its traits, the intention is to find out more about the peculiarities of this way of tuning and to look into the possibilities and limits of this particular tuning. In this study I seek to analyze the musical as well as practical aspects of the scordatura tuning – in the first chapter, the function and the field of its usage will be discussed. The aim of the second chapter is to review types of scordatura notation, as well as to look into practical technicalities and string tension peculiarities concerning the use of the scordatura tuning.
