Abstract [eng] This thesis attempts to find new ways to actualise meanings of carpet and its connection with ideas of contemporary art by analysing contextual, philosophical and psychological aspects of carpets history. This thesis attempts to find new ways to actualise meanings of carpet and its connection with ideas of contemporary art by analysing contextual, philosophical and psychological aspects of carpets history. Hidden experiential potencies, such as nature, comfort, play and sensory experience that are important to modern man and culture are revealed and actualized by interpreting historical aspects of carpet development. Research starts by delving into cohesion of nature and art in “Garden of Paradise” themed carpets and examining relevance of experience of nature in contemporary art practices. The concept of carpet as a zone of emotional comfort is actualized and its origin in Persian art, which regarded carpet as a kind of metaphysical space meant for introspection and emotional recreation, is revealed. While analyzing carpets depicting Garden of Paradise, the author discovers an embedded space and time travel function. Theory of psychological time travel introduced by neuroscientist Endel Tulving is referenced to create a new perception of carpet which enables it to be seen as a platform capable of traversing time. In the search for new creative approaches and means of emotional suggestibility, playful and multisensory aspects and their application in artistic practices are discussed. By researching different experiences and their importance in eco-art, installations and practices of interactive sensory art, the author seeks to expand the meaning of carpet and enhance inner emotional experiences.
