Abstract [eng] |
In the 21st century a growing number of artists have managers and producers who look after their career development, record publishing, marketing, concert organization and other important aspects, however in Lithuania it is rare that you hear about student – artist management. No university or school of higher education in Lithuania has an established position of artist manager so students do not have a possibility to be consulted professionally on the topic of their specific career development. This case study will analyse the examples of universities and schools of higher education from abroad that have artist manager positions established as well as discuss the importance of this position and after conducting interviews and surveys with employees of cultural and art centres of universities and schools of higher education in Lithuania will find out who fulfils said functions at their establishments. The following methods were used to conduct the research: theoretical (analysis of scientific literature and documents), empirical (qualitative research, semi-structured interviews, and quantitative research, using a questionnaire as a research instrument). The aim of this case study. To analyse the importance of artist manager position at universities and schools of higher education. The tasks of the research. To reach the aim of the study the following three tasks were raised: 1. Define the specifics and roles of the manager of performers in the different organizations; 2. To examine and present examples proving the practice of higher education institutions of foreign countries; 3. After conducting an empirical study, define the role of the manager of artists in Lithuanian universities and schools of higher education and the importance of the position of the manager of artists. The results of the empirical research have revealed that as many as 103 of the students that have responded to the quantitative research have said that they would be highly motivated if their higher education institution would have a professional artist manager who would consult and work on their career development, establishment of their trademark and possibilities of earning money for their art. It is important to note that majority of the respondents have stated that currently no employee at their establishment takes care of career development of student artists. During qualitative research has shown that another big issue – the lack of human recourses, which leads to the fact that teachers and band leaders are providing services of an artist manager – an area that they have no professional education on. Employees of such institutions that were interviewed have said that the establishment of the position of an artist manager would be an important step, there would be less mistakes made at the early stages of student artist careers and in return the students would feel more motivated to engage in artistic activities. |
