Abstract [eng] The importance of national identity is actualised in the works of researchers and philosophers, and emphasised in different international and national legal documents. Thus, the development of national identity at school is seen as one of the most relevant contemporary socio-pedagogical problems. The development of pupils’ national identity and ethno-cultural values requires schools to play a particularly important role. In the absence of a clear-cut strategy for national identity development, teachers, who have to transmit national identity to their pupils, find themselves in the most complicated situation. There is a significant lack of scientific research and relevant recommendations on the issues of national identity development. Moreover, there were no research works found, which would aim at the disclosure of the connection between the teacher’s attitudes regarding the issues of national identity, its development, personal values, and the level of pupils’ national identity. It is important to reveal these connections in order to ensure purposeful and targeted intervention into the processes of national identity development in the primary school. With regard to the practical significance of the issue and a lack of scientific research, the topic of pupils’ national identity development in the primary school was chosen for the dissertation research. The object of the research is the influence of the national orientation of teacher’s personality on the national identity of pupils. The theoretical novelty of the research. (1) The theoretical and empirical justification of the influence of the national orientation of teacher’s personality on the development of the national identity of pupils in the primary school. (2) The empirical justification of the specific importance of activeness of teacher’s personality when developing the national identity of primary school pupils in the context of other elements of the national orientation of teacher’s personality. The practical significance of the research. (1) For the first time in Lithuania, the carried out research allowed the assessment of the level of expression of the national identity of primary school pupils. The adapted instrument of assessment of this expression preconditions the targeted intervention into the ongoing processes of development of the national identity of pupils and allows assessing the change. (2) The disclosure of the connection between the national orientation of teacher’s personality and the national identity of primary school pupils is significant because it allows the identification of the factors of development of the objects in question, preconditions purposeful actions and targeted intervention into the ongoing processes of preparation and continuous training of teachers in order to ensure their development and to achieve better results of the development of national identity of pupils.
