M. Popova. The Problem of Social Integration of Third-Countries Citizens in the Context of Social Work in Lithuania. Final thesis of master’s degree study programme in social work. Social integration of third world country citizens living in Lithuania is one of the key issues of today’s society as considering a trend of decrease in numbers, next year the growth of immigration to Lithuania is possible and necessary. Integration of immigrants is very important for both social linkage and economic development. So that immigrants could feel a part of society we must treat them honestly and provide them with means necessary to become members of our society. Integration is a continual, two-way process based on mutual rights and duties of both immigrants and Lithuanian society. Having analyzed scientific literature, a research object is an evaluation of third world country citizens’ problem of social integration. Aim of research – to analyze a problem of social integration of citizens of third world countries living in Lithuania. Method of research: analysis of scientific literature, quantitative research applying questionnaire and qualitative research applying interview. Analyzing the firs goal – a theoretic discourse of migration rating theories of world migration, trends of world migration, theories of international migration and immigration challenge for Lithuania were studied. The second goal is for analysis of legal documentation of European Union and Lithuania and evaluation of a content of link between migration and social integration. The third goal was to reveal practical possibilities of social work in the process of integration of citizens from the third world countries. The fourth goal of the work was to carry out quantitative and qualitative research of integration problems of citizens from third world countries touching the aspects of social work. Citizens from third world countries and experts in the field of migrants’ integration were surveyed. According to the conclusions, citizens from third world countries living in Lithuania, face problems in various life areas. The most frequent problems are those of employment, accommodation purchase, formal and informal exploitation of citizens from third world countries in sectors of occupation, violations of social rights, intolerance of society. As a consequence one third of citizens from third world countries living in Lithuania experience discrimination and disintegration. Quantitative and qualitative tests revealed that social partners, who could represent migrants and defend their rights, should work in the field of migrants’ integration. |
