This research paper examines the concept of mystic and its peculiarities, expression in the philosophy, art and music. This work studies the means of the mystic expression in different art forms throughout different time periods, with a special emphasis on the musical compositions. The special attention has been given to the musical means of expression and particularly its illustrative properties which help to convey the mystic elements and objects. The paper discusses program music elements which help to describe mystic elements. It is done by providing the specific examples of musical works which are used to explain the connection between the mystic program elements and the illustrative means of musical expression. These concepts will be applied in the second part of this research paper in the analysis of the musical work – C. Saint-Saens-F. Liszt paraphrase “Dance Macabre”. |
