Abstract [eng] The article topicalizes the sociality of poetry and literature in general, maintaining that the concept of sociality is highly relative and functional, and therefore escapes theoretical purification and standardization. The sociality of Vincas Kudirka’s poems is being discussed after the binary model Gemenschaft / Gesellschaft (community / association) proposed by a German classic of sociology Ferdinand Tönnies. The presumptive correlatives of this model to be identified in Kudirka’s poetry are such binary oppositions as father of the nation / nation as a family, male / female, domestic / strange. Kudirka takes up the challenges of his epoch, and his social stand is supported by his personal responsibility founded on morality and sacramentality as its underlying basis. The poems of Kudirka are distinguished for their value-laden character and socializing capacity. This kind of poetry derives its social implications from the fundamentality and universality of human condition, and thus contains its topicallity in the course of time.
