During 15 years of credit unions activity in Lithuania over 120 thousands of members joined the credit unions. The total assets of credit unions reached 1400 million Litas contributing 1,7 % of the total market share. The role of credit unions in Lithuania is constantly increasing, especially in the regions, where often credit unions are the only institutions providing basic financial services to people. The article analyses the factors of credit unions development and an opinion of credit unions leaders about the perspectives of development of Lithuanian credit unions system. The object of the research is Lithuanian credit unions. The aim of the research is to present suggestions for the faster development of Lithuanian credit unions. These methods were applied during the research: quantitative research – survey with employees and managers of the credit unions, qualitative research - interviews with managers of credit unions, analysis of scientific literature and documents about credit unions, statistical prognosis of credit unions indicators and comparative analysis of research results. As the outcome of the research suggestions for the faster development of Lithuanian credit unions were presented. |
