Oncological patients while surviving severe phase of treatment also confronts physical and psychological factors that worsen quality of life. There’s a lot of literature about complementary and alternative medicine as a method for treating cancer, but the effects of bibliotherapy on the quality of life of oncological patients have been poorly studied. The aim of thesis - To conduct a research on how effective is bibliotherapy for people who have oncological illness. Research methodology. Type of research – qualitative research. Case studies. Research instrument: semi structured interview. Method of content analysis was applied. Research sample – 4 patients and 1 bibliotherapist. Research conducted in accordance to principles of ethics. Research results. It was found that diagnosis of cancer affects patient‘s psycho-emotional state and behavior. When introduced to diagnosis “cancer”, human’s primal reaction is to neglect it, followed by sense of despair/desperation. Once diagnosed with oncological illness, people have to live throw difficult inner experiences, whom they tries to mitigate by falling into various activities or very rationally programming for a successful future. Results show that patient’s depressive condition is outcome of bad somatic condition, chemotherapy treatment and accompanied pain. This research brings out main symptoms of humans depression: insomnia, anger, fatigue/distress, hopelessness. It has been found that bibliography makes positive influence on oncologic patient’s health/condition. Research outlines that bibliography supports the hope of quality life. Bibliography, as findings of this research suggests, opens more opportunities for interaction and for one’s feelings to come out. Also bibliotherapy provides emotional spiritual support for patient, giving him opportunity not to feel lonely, to feel connected, in this difficult period of illness, this research confirms that new experiences and knowledge is one more factor which improves life quality. Conclusion. Bibliotherapy makes positive influence for patient diagnosed with oncological illness; it supports and strengthens hope for that lasting quality of life. |
