The aim of the research is to reveal the peculiarities of the body image of teenagers and their relation to self-esteem and psychological well-being. In the research have been participated 111 teenagers (51 boys and 60 girls), who are studying in one of Mazeikiai city gymnasium. Average age of subject was 16.78±0.59. In the research used The Multidimensional Body – Self Relations Questionnaire – Appearance Scales (MBSRQ – AS), Rosenberg's self-esteem scale, a version of the Lithuanian psychological well - being scale of the teenagers (LPGS – J) and demographic indicators questionnaire. The results of the research showed that teenage girls are more unhappy with their body, the girls are more concerned about body weight and weight evaluation is less satisfied with certain parts of your body than teenage guys. Also, research data showed that teenage girls are more unhappy with their overall appearance, the lower part of your torso and body weight than teenage guys. The results showed that self-esteem, psychological well-being is related to teenagers' approach to their body. Self-esteem correlates positively with the appearance of the body, satisfaction with individual parts of the body, and negatively with the evaluation of body weight. Psychological well-being correlates positively with the assessment of appearance, satisfaction of individual body parts, negatively - worry of excessive body weight and evaluation of body weight. |
