Abstract [eng] According to NEC (National Examination Centre) achievement tests, fourth graders’ reading, sixth graders’ writing and eight graders’ math and writing achievements continue to raise concerns and low students’ aspirations could be blamed (Bigelienė, Gudynas, Skripkienė, Melnikė ir Jaruševičiūtė, 2017). Everyone has beliefs about their own essential qualities, intellect included (Dweck, 2000). These person’s inner theories could be considered as their fixed mindset and their growth mindset (Gutshall, 2013). Research shows significant benefits of having a growth mindset on a student’s learning outcomes (Binder, 2007; Richard, 2007; Bivens, 2008; Dweck, 2010). Aim of this study was to develop a program for changing pupils‘ fixed mindset and to test the effectiveness of the program. A six step program „Kopėčios“ was developed. The program aimed at changing pupils‘ fixed mindset to a growth mindset. As pupils‘ mindsets change it was pursued that their academic motivation and academic achievements will increase. 12 seventh graders participated in a nine-week program. Results show that pupils‘ mindsets about intelligence are receptive to mindset changing interventions. However, the program did not increase pupils’ academic motivation and academic achievement. Ideas for improving the study are provided.
