This master's thesis explains identification of issues that usually arise during application of Code of Ethics in various business organizations. The aim of this thesis, which is to provide recommendations and guidelines that would not only help to identify those problems but also solve them throughout its adaptation process in organization, has been achieved. It consists of three main parts. The first one analyzes purpose of the Code of Ethics, its program of operation and bond with other organizational tools. In the second part, research methodology and motives behind its choice have been explained. The third part presents results of the research which revealed main issues that emerged during the implementation of Code of Ethics in specific organizations. The study revealed that in all three organizations, corporate management faced similar problems in regards to implementation of the Code of Ethics. It was found that they mostly occurred during stages of creation, adaptation and revision. The main reason all these common errors were made by organizations is implementation of the code while wrongly understanding its mode of operation. Also, management tools that were chosen did not help corporate managers to take full advantage of the code because those tools were not related to a specific organization‘s infrastructure of ethics. Thus, the lack of a common ethical infrastructure in organizations has led to the inadequacy of a Code of Ethics as an instrument for creating and maintaining ethics. The evaluation of the Code of Ethics is a part of day-to-day processes of business organizations, so it makes it possible to spot flaws in its application process, and to identify their causal relationships. Adjusting to problem areas one of the key conditions for any organization in order to evolve and grow by its potential and ever-changing externalities. These processes require ethical knowledge and their consistent application. Only then can changes be expected: in the consciousness of the individual, in the organization, in society. Recommendations have been provided to avoid issues with the application of the Code of Ethics. Thesis: The problems of applying the Code of Ethics in business organizations are similar and independent of the specific field of business. |
