Abstract [eng] The aim of this study is to reveal the experience of novice teacher in the first year of work at school. Six teachers of general education took part in the research. The main criteria for participating in this research was working at school for first time and no longer than a year. The semi-structured interview was used to collect the data. In the analysis of the data, thematic analysis technique was used. As a result of the research, it was found that the decision to become a teacher was well considered and the work at school provides satisfaction for all participants. At the beginning of the work young teachers felt a lack experience, knowledge and self-confidence, it was difficult to find contact with students. Half a year later the pedagogical work began to bring satisfaction because the relationships with students improved, became easier to keep the discipline in the classroom and to ensure the effective learning. School leaders and administration welcomed the young professionals and provided the necessary emotional and methodological support. Educators were able to establish positive relationships with students’ parents, although specific negative experiences were most memorable. Some novice teachers felt the support of co-workers in adaptation process, while others felt negative attitudes from more experienced teachers towards themselves, both as novices and as co-workers. The first-year experience at school did not frighten the teachers and they associate their further professional career with pedagogical work.
