Abstract [eng] The public sector is a complex and constantly changing system, so in order to be effective, it requires continuous learning, which transforms normal working methods and strengthens systemic thinking. These are the qualities that SD learning is characterized by. Even though, improvement within public sector institutions can be identified as one of the key preconditions for the success of sustainable development, it is not clear whether public sector institutions pay sufficient attention to the learning of the members of the organization. This work is limited to the social sphere of the public sector of the Republic of Lithuania, due to the importance of the latter in the whole context of sustainable development. Therefore, the problem of this work is formulated by the question: how is sustainable development learning organized and carried out in public sector organizations in the social field? This work consists of three structural parts. The first part provides a theoretical analysis of the links between sustainable development and public sector learning, examining learning as a precondition for the success of sustainable development, the concept of organizational learning and the aspects of sustainable development in the public sector. The second part of the work presents the rationale for the research methodology, defining the stages of research and their importance. The third part of the work is devoted to empirical research, during which the expression of public sector SD learning in the context of the organizations subordinated to the Ministry of Social Security and Labor of the Republic of Lithuania is revealed. This empirical study by using the (content) and semi-structured interview method revealed the expression of SD learning in the organizations subordinated to the Ministry of Social Security and Labor of the Republic of Lithuania in 2017-2019. An empirical study revealed the fact that the expression of SD learning is unequal in the examined institutions, though the current SD learning in all the examined institutions is insufficient and does not provide public sector employees with the necessary knowledge and skills to achieve sustainable development.
