| Abstract [eng] |
The article aims at the revision of relationship between utopian thinking and radical imagination. The study concentrates on a special kind of radical imagination, which makes utopian thinking impossible. In order to achieve this, different perspective is employed – the one from brothel. The “brothel perspective” is a radical one because it offers ideas and insights that could not be found anywhere else. This kind of imagination is represented by The Tiger Lillies, a band based in London. The band describes itself as a “Brechtian punk-cabaret”. From punk the band imported revolt, energy, anarchism, cynicism, nihilism, disregard for authorities, rules and regulations. Cabaret provided the band with satire, farce, tragicomedy, balance on the edge between subtle and vulgar, low and high, philosophy and bawdry, professionalism and hooliganism etc. Analyzing the ideas of the band, it is obvious that the most important ingredient in the band’s selfdescription is the notion of “Brechtian”, which is never defined satisfactorily. The Tiger Lillies are narrators, not theoreticians; therefore, their world and its principles or/and values could be reconstructed mainly from their lyrics. For this reason Brechtian ideas, related to radical imagination and utopian consciousness, are the most suitable guide to decoding the band’s worldview. |
