This work analyzes development of Šventoji camping using geothermal mineral water. Šventoji is a resort site on the Baltic Sea, a part of the resort that was integrated with Palanga back in 1970. Although Palanga is a well-known international resort, Šventoji remains only a part of it usually chosen by the holiday makers looking for a cheaper accommodation. While in terms of recreation Šventoji is extremely attractive, this resort has so far been unable to solve the problem of seasonality and shortage of tourist attractions. Yet, more and more scientists and experts pay attention to the still unused local natural resources. The seaside region which the resort of Palanga (Šventoji) belongs to has a unique natural treasure – the Western Lithuanian Geothermal Water Anomaly. A possibility is being considered to found in Šventoji a unique camping in compliance with the European standards with a geothermal water well not found anywhere else either in Lithuania or in all the Baltic States using the advantages of Šventoji infrastructure. The first part of the master’s paper presents analysis of theoretical data – documents and scientific sources are analyzed, the peculiarities of existing offer and demand for campings, legal environment, types of campings in Lithuania and on the international tourism market, motives of the tourists who prefer a camping for accommodation are studied. The variety and innovation of use of thermal water for recreation, importance of innovations in the tourism sector are also analyzed, the paper provides analysis of the camping market in the Northern Europe, defines the notion of the Western Lithuanian region. The second part describes methods of studies of feasibility of development of Šventoji camping using geothermal mineral water. The third part presents the results of the study – analysis of reviews provided by the Western Lithuania’s camping services consumers along with analysis and interpretation of a semi-structured interviews. Based on the analysis of scientific literature, documents, statistical analysis, analysis of the camping market in the Northern Europe and on the interpretation and content analysis of semi-structured interviews a model of development of Šventoji camping using geothermal mineral water was suggested. In the end of the third part one can find conclusions and suggestions. |
