Abstract [eng] The experience of parental care loss is a major blow to the child – includes separation from the attachment object, changes in social network and residence. Also, the negative experience in the family affects the psychosocial well-being of the child, which is also a struggle to the child’s identity, as well as to the formation of his Self. The social work profession too often follows a problem-oriented work model, thus moving away from its core values of empowering the client. As an alternative to the supporting process in the child care, the aim was to explore the possibilities of a positive approach which consists of social support and a strengths-based approach. They are interrelated, taking into account the positive traits of a person, the importance of his abilities and strengths through the creation of a positive relationship with the environment to support the children in care. Purpose of the research. To analyse the possibilities of applying a positive approach to support the child in the institutional care. Research methodology: analysis of scientific literature, analysis of documents, qualitative research (interview), social network map instrument with children. The data from the research were analysed using the (content) method of analysis. The sample consisted of 7 specialist working with foster children and 5 children living in the institutional care. Conclusions of the research. During the empirical research carried out, it was found the specialists working with children in the child care use the components of a positive approach in the daily work – strenghts-based approach and social support. Their manifestation in the supporting process is clearly noticeable and is used to motivate, praising the child, as well as to provide him with emotional or material support. These results shows a supporting process using decision-oriented interventions.
