Abstract [eng] |
Almost all the composers of the Lithuanian academic music pay great attention to the traditions of ethnic music and their modifications in contemporary culture . B.Kutavičius reconstructs the ancient Baltic customs in the oratory "The Last Heathen Rituals" using tembres of archaic instruments, choir singing, the style of the sutartinės and their rythmics. There are numerous mythological and cosmological motives in the text deciding the shape of writing down the piece on paper where one can notice symbols connected with the Baltic worldoutlook: wheel, swastica, ornament of textile, etc. Using minimal means of expression, Kutavičius maintains the essential features of ethnic music: no limitation of time while writing a piece, equal dynamics, one tempus, and structure of modes connected with natural modes leaning on accustics and musical "textile" that is composed from the near and limited quantity of tunes. Kutavičius uses laws of ethnic music instinctively while creating an original stile of reconstructed "ethnicalised" music, and his ideas of creation seem to correspond to scientific hypotheses. At the same time, his works are very modern and reflect' the aims of contemporary music, yet there is one rear feature - this work with its qualities of performance influences the process of the democratisation of academic music. |
