The term “Scandinavia" usually includes Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland. There has been a number of influential film makers from these countries such as Ingmar Bergman, Roy Anderson (Sweden), Lars von Trier (Denmark), Aki Kaurismäki (Finland), Joachim Trier (Norway), Fristrich Þór Frischiksson (Iceland) and others. Scandinavian cinema is becoming even more relevant in 2017, when Robert Östlund`s “The Square” (2017) won even four prizes in European Film Awards, including the best European Film. Scandinavian films, directly or indirectly, could have had or had an impact on Lithuanian cinema. Thea goal of this work is to define it. The phenomenon of the Scandinavian film and its connection with the Lithuanian cinema was not previously analyzed in the academic field. Structural and comparative analysis research methods are going to be used. Work structure: in the first part of the work the subject of the research will be indicated – films made by contemporary Scandinavian filmmakers such as director Th. Vinterberg “Submarino” (Denmark, 2010), Luke Moodysson's “Lilya 4-ever” (Sweden, 2002), J. Trier's “Oslo, August 31st” (Norway, 2011), A. Kaurismäki's "The Man Without a Past" (Finland, 2002) ), D. Kari "Noi the Albino " (Iceland, 2003), later they will be analyzed and their features will be identified. The features will be determined by theme, choice of characters, genre, narrative structure and elements of the cinematic language: mise-en-scène, cinematography, editing and sound. All of these films were screened in one of the main Lithuanian film festivals. In the second part of the work they will be compared with the selected works of contemporary Lithuanian filmmakers like Ignas Miškinis "Diring" (2006) and "Low Lights" (2009), Kristina Buožytė "The Collectress" (2008) and Ignas Jonynas "The Gambler" (2013). Lithuanian film history materials will be used to ascertain the links between Lithuanian and Scandinavian films. The analysis in formal aspects of film will be based on film critics Timothy Corrigan and Patricia White film theory book "The Film Experience", to analyze the narrative film structures the book by scriptwriter Robert McKee "Story. Substance, Structure, Style, And The Principles of Screenwriting" as well as material from various theorists on Scandinavian cinema will be used. |
