This paper analyzes the development of the Olympic values knowledge, skills and attitudes of young adolescents (5 th grade pupils) in non-formal education. The aim of the study was to determine the impact of non-formal education on young adolescents for interiorization of Olympic values. The following methods were used in this study: theoretic analysis of scientific literature, questionnaire, and mathematical statistical analysis. The study included students from Klaipėda Herman Zuderman gymnasium, Priekulė Ieva Simonaitytė gymnasium, Kretinga Simon Dach lower secondary school, Neringa gymnasium, Palanga Vladas Jurgutis lower secondary school, Skuodas Bartuva progymnasium, Šilutė Pamarys lower secondary school. 416 respondents (5th grade students) took part in the survey. 13,5, % students were from Klaipėda city, 18,5 % from Klaipėda district, 8,7 % from Kretinga district, 3,4 % from Neringa town, 17,8 % from Palanga, 13,7 % from Skuodas district, 24,5 % from Šilutė district. The study found that 58,2 % of the students are involved in non-formal physical education (NFPE) and 41,8 % are not involved. The students answered the survey questionnaire which consisted of 35 questions: 5 demographic questions and 30 questions related to the Olympic values. The questionnaire included five groups of Olympic values questions: excellence, respect, friendship, joy of effort and fair play. Mathematical statistical analysis was used for the descriptive statistics of data followed by percentage graphical analysis. The questionnaire was conducted by assessing the knowledge of values, skills and attitudes calculating the percentage rate. 3 levels have been found: low (up to 33% ), medium (33-66 %) and high (66-100 %). To ensure the reliability of the questionnaire Cronbach‘s alpha coefficient has been used. To identify statistically significant difference between the groups Mann-Whitney U test was used. The results were considered statistically significant at the level of significance p <0,05. The data obtained were processed using statistical data processing program SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) package 20.0 version. The results of the survey have shown that the students' knowledge of the Olympic values of friendship and fair play is very good. Olympic value of joy of effort is mediocre, whereas the answers of respondents towards excellence have distinguished and the attitude was referred to very good and quite good. The same result was found with the attitude towards respect. The study found that the attitudes of young adolescents are unevenly distributed: attitudes towards friendship are very good, attitudes towards joy of effort are just good. Having the results of attitude towards excellence, the study found that the opinion of the respondents was also uneven as it showed very good and mediocre results. The same results were towards respect, whereas the attitudes towards fair play were very good and rather poor. The study has shown uneven distribution of the respondents' skills in Olympic values: the skills in joy of effort are very good, however the skills in fair play are very poor. The study found that the attitudes of young adolescents’ towards excellence are unevenly distributed: very good and poor, the same results were found towards the attitudes of respect. The study also found that the skills in friendship are very good and quite good. The respondents who are involved in non-formal physical education and those who are not involved in non-formal physical education were compared. Statistically significant differences were found: the students involved in non-formal activities had higher values of excellence, friendship, respect, joy of effort and fair play, whereas for students not involved in non-formal activities the statistically significant differences were not found. |
