This work examines the psychological, medical, spiritual, and theological literature in order to gather material on the aspects of the relationship of addicted people with God. Addiction has been and remains one of the most pressing problems. It affects not only addicted person, but whole society. The aim: to analyse literature in order to identify the aspects of the relationship of addicted individuals with God. The first section of this paper defines the theoretical concept of addiction. From a medical point of view, Addiction is a pathological mental condition, a disease that is manifested by compulsive substance use despite harmful consequence. Meanwhile, from a Christian perspective, addiction is sin or a spiritual disease. What is more, addictions occur when a person loses the relationship with God, and His place is filled by other gods otherwise known as addictions. Moreover types of addictions and the harm they cause are discussed. Furthermore, reasons for the addictions are explained. Finally, hysical, mental, social, and spiritual problems caused by addiction are described. The second section discusses the features of a healthy and addicted person relationship with God. The following types of addicted individuals relationship with God are distinguished: broken relationship, absence of relationship, distorted relationship, and restorative relationship. In addition, the influence of a healthy relationship with God on overcoming addictions is discussed. The third section describes assistance for people with addiction. Medical, psychological, social, spiritual and integrated help are distinguished. Because addiction affects the individual at all levels, holistic care models are known to be the most effective, so complex treatment is often used to overcome addictions. The fourth section discusses the rehabilitation of addicted people’s relationship with God, its importance, assumptions, and ways to restore the relationship with God. At last possibilit of spiritual support for addicts are analyzed. In conclussion, it is assumed that the restoration and maintenance of a spiritual relationship with God plays a significant role not only in the healing of an addicted person, but in his or her entire life and the quality of environment. |
